We are all faced with where to wine and dine visiting parents/aunts/in-laws. Els 4 Gats is a good bet. As anyone who has read a guidebook will know, this place was a hangout for Picasso and a bunch of bohemian artists who spirited in the late 19th century modernista movement. And although most the painting and drawings that now adorn the walls are reproductions, there’s enough genuine adornment to wow and woo your guests. Els 4 Gats serves standard Catalan fare, and basic dishes in the front bar section. But if you really want to impress, reserve a table in the rear dining room, where a pianist belts out Claderman-esque classics.
