Cova Fumada

La Cova Fumada is the genuine article, family run since god knows when. Popular with all sorts from street sweepers, traffic cops, construction workers, lawyers, backpacker foodie types who all seem content to spend time in this special Barceloneta treasure. Its essential to come early to lunch, around 1 or earlier is advised. There’s little in the way of queuing, you just need to appear determined and get yourself seated. There’s a simple chalkboard of staples like pan con tomate, patatas bravas and pimientos de padron as well as their delicious seafood like marinated sardines, bacalao, pulpo and fried calamar. The atmosphere is of intense appreciation of both the institution that is as well as the quality of the food. Service is gruff but who cares, it seems appropriate, it is what it is, no frills, just a great lunchtime experience. Do not forget to try the legendary “bombas”, pictured above, I could just come here to eat those alone, go try, you won’t be disappointed.
