Cal Pep
If you want to live like the locals, then Cal Pep is the place for you. This small, boisterous tapas bar is one of El Born’s favourite establishments. Cal Pep is always packed and you might have to fight to get one of the seats at the bar upfront, but waiting along the side of the bar sipping some cava watching the food hit the bar really builds the appetite. There is no menu and everything served is fresh from the market.
Look out for owner Pep, who is usually to be found mingling with the patrons and pssscht pssschting at the staff. There is a delicious selection of tapas to choose from, we recommend the fried artichokes, the fresh clams with garlic butter, Chipirones with chickpeas and any of the whole fish like the sole. For tapas fans who want a real taste of Spanish life, this bar makes for an unforgettable experience. Pricey but worth doing at least once.
